When do I start mowing?
We get the question all the time….”When should I start mowing?” Our answer is alway the same: Are you ready to mow and does the lawn need mown? Those 2 questions are equally important as most homeowners only focus on “does it need mown”. If they are both important let’s break them down in bullet point fashion:
Are you ready to mow?
- Have you done your spring service on your mower? Oil change, spark plugs, sharpened blades, etc….
- Have you communicated with your lawn mowing service?
- How often do you want it mowed in the spring?
- Does your lawn care company use spring fertilizers which would increase the need for additional spring mowing?
- Did you communicate any changes to the service? i.e. -you might want it bagged in the spring….mown taller or shorter.
- Once you start mowing the grass will be more motivated to grow, so be aware…..the mowing season will have begun!
Does it need mown?
- Are there leaves that have gathered in areas that could be eliminated with mowing. If yes….consider mowing
- Does the lawn have areas that are higher than others that would look better mown? If yes, MOW.
- Have all your neighbors mowed their lawns? If yes, MOW!
The biggest things to focus on with mowing are keeping your blades sharp and never cut more than 1/3 of the blade. This allows your grass to grow healthier and maximize the beauty of your lawn!
